The ongoing home for semaglutide research news on this forum. When posting, please label what kind of source you’re sharing — it helps readers weigh the information appropriately:

    • Human clinical evidence — peer-reviewed trials in people
    • Animal or laboratory evidence — preclinical research, not yet tested in humans or not conclusive for human outcomes
    • Regulatory information — FDA actions, label changes, official approvals
    • News reporting — journalism covering the above, one step removed from the primary source
    • Member interpretation — your own read or opinion on what something means, clearly marked as such

    Where things currently stand

    • Ozempic — FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes; as of January 28, 2025, also approved to reduce the risk of worsening kidney disease and cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease (the FLOW trial) — the first GLP-1 receptor agonist with that specific indication. [Regulatory / human clinical evidence]
    • Wegovy — FDA-approved for chronic weight management; also approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, heart attack, and stroke in adults with cardiovascular disease and obesity/overweight (the SELECT trial, roughly a 20% relative risk reduction). [Regulatory / human clinical evidence]
    • Wegovy Tablets — an oral, once-daily 25 mg semaglutide tablet, FDA-approved as the first oral GLP-1 for obesity, with a US launch planned for early 2026. [Regulatory]
    • STEP 1 (NEJM, 2021) — pivotal obesity trial; 2.4 mg produced average weight loss of about 14.9% at 68 weeks. [Human clinical evidence]

Please link the primary source (the journal article, the FDA action, or Novo Nordisk’s own newsroom) when you post an update.
