KeymasterWelcome to the Semaglutide Research & Experiences forum, part of GLP Research & Experiences. Start here before posting.
What is semaglutide?
Semaglutide (Novo Nordisk) is a GLP-1 receptor agonist — it activates a single receptor pathway (glucagon-like peptide-1), unlike dual- or triple-agonist compounds such as tirzepatide or retatrutide. It’s available as a once-weekly injectable and, as of a January 2026 approval, as a once-daily oral tablet.
Approved uses vs. broader research discussion
Semaglutide is FDA-approved under two brand names: Ozempic (type 2 diabetes; also approved to reduce the risk of worsening kidney disease and cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease) and Wegovy (chronic weight management, including an oral tablet form; also approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, heart attack, and stroke in adults with cardiovascular disease and obesity or overweight). This forum welcomes discussion of both the approved products and broader research interest — please keep the two clearly labeled.
Evidence vs. anecdotes
Published, peer-reviewed trial data is one thing; a member’s personal report is anecdotal. Both have a place here, but please don’t present one as the other.
Forum expectations
- No personalized dosing instructions, dosing calendars, or titration schedules
- No instructions for obtaining unapproved or unverified products
- No injection instructions
- Don’t diagnose symptoms or claim any compound is “risk-free”
- Don’t encourage anyone to ignore professional medical advice
- Supplier representatives and affiliates must disclose the relationship
For comparisons with other compounds, see Tirzepatide Research & Experiences and Retatrutide (GLP-3) Research & Experiences. General metabolic-pathway research not specific to a single compound fits better in Metabolic Research.
Credible sources
- STEP 1 (NEJM, 2021) — pivotal obesity trial
- FDA approval of Wegovy for cardiovascular risk reduction (SELECT trial coverage)
- FDA approval of oral Wegovy tablets
