KeymasterWelcome to the Tirzepatide Research & Experiences forum, part of GLP Research & Experiences. Start here before posting.
What is tirzepatide?
Tirzepatide (Eli Lilly compound LY3298176) is a once-weekly injectable that activates two receptors at once: GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1). That dual-receptor activity is the main mechanistic difference from single-receptor GLP-1 medicines like semaglutide.
Approved medical uses vs. broader research discussion
Tirzepatide is FDA-approved under two brand names: Mounjaro (type 2 diabetes) and Zepbound (chronic weight management, and — as of December 2024 — moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity, the first and only FDA-approved medicine for that indication). This forum welcomes both discussion of the approved products and broader research interest, but the two should stay clearly labeled as what they are: approved prescription medicine vs. general research/scientific discussion.
What belongs in this forum
Research findings, published trial data, mechanism discussion, side-effect and tolerability reports, progress logs, and comparisons with semaglutide and retatrutide (see the Semaglutide and Retatrutide forums). General metabolic-pathway research not specific to a single compound fits better in Metabolic Research.
Evidence vs. personal experience
Please label your posts clearly. Published, peer-reviewed data is one thing; one member’s personal report is anecdotal and not clinical evidence, even when it’s genuinely useful context. Don’t present a personal account as if it were a proven outcome.
Forum rules
- No personalized dosing instructions, dosing calendars, or titration schedules
- No instructions for obtaining unapproved or unverified products
- No injection instructions
- Don’t diagnose symptoms or claim any compound is “risk-free”
- Don’t encourage anyone to ignore professional medical advice
- Supplier representatives and affiliates must disclose the relationship
Credible research sources
- SURMOUNT-1 (NEJM, 2022) — pivotal obesity trial
- FDA approval of Zepbound for obstructive sleep apnea (Lilly newsroom)
- SURPASS-CVOT (NEJM, 2025) — cardiovascular outcomes vs. dulaglutide
